THE SCIENCE & VISION BEHIND OOKA

OOKA is the combination of science, technology, and vision that
elevates shisha to a new level.

ENHANCING THE LIVES OF MILLIONS OF SHISHA ENTHUSIASTS

We assembled a team of scientists and engineers to create OOKA, an alternative to conventional shisha that does not require charcoal. OOKA is a cleaner choice based on laboratory analyses, it emits on average 94% lower levels of harmful chemicals*.

*IMPORTANT: Based on laboratory aerosol tests conducted by Advanced Systems Laboratories GmBH on behalf of Advanced Inhalation Rituals, the average reductions in the levels of a range of harmful chemicals (excluding nicotine) compared to aerosol from charcoal-heated shisha were below the detection limit of 0.000097mg/ml in laboratory tests

TESTED TO THE HIGHEST STANDARDS

A conventional shisha serving is heated by charcoal. The charcoal itself emits smoke into the ambient air, and to a lesser extent, into the pipe for inhalation by the consumer. The quantity of smoke and its chemical composition are dependent upon the type of charcoal used, and the amount used during the session.
To quantify the difference between conventional shisha aerosol, and the aerosol from OOKA, we commissioned ASL Analytic Service Laboratory GmbH (ASL), a German-based independent laboratory accredited to the International Standards Organization (ISO) 17025 by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS). ASL provides a laboratory service with unparalleled experience and expertise in analyzing smoke and aerosol chemistry focused on providing services to the tobacco and vaping industries as well as their regulators. *

The analysis was conducted by attaching three conventional shisha setups and the OOKA to a HAUNI Shisha Smoker “smoking machine” for the collection of aerosols for analysis. Following prescribed ISO standards, the machine took 175 puffs from each shisha set up and each puff measured 530ml which means that a total of 92,750 ml of aerosol from each shisha set up was collected for analysis. The tested setups were:

  1. 1.    A shisha serving heated by wood-derived charcoal placed over perforated aluminum foil,
  2. 2.    A shisha serving heated by coconut-derived charcoal placed over perforated aluminum foil,
  3. 3.    A shisha serving heated by coconut-derived charcoal placed within a Heat Management Device, and
  4. 4.    An OOKA serving.

Each analysis was replicated three times to ensure the reliability of the data, and the results are expressed as an average. The laboratory report's key outcomes were:

  • 13 harmful constituents that were found in one or more conventional shisha setups were not detected in aerosol from the OOKA. These include carbon monoxide, benzo(a)pyrene, ammonia, benzene, and several carbonyls.
  • Among the harmful constituents that were found in conventional shisha and OOKA, OOKA aerosol contained on average 94% less than in aerosol from shisha heated with wood-derived charcoal.
  • OOKA aerosol contained far fewer toxicants than among all the tested setups.

*IMPORTANT: The totality of evidence available shows that while OOKA use is not risk-free,
switching completely to OOKA is a better choice than continuing with conventional shisha.

BENEFITS OF HEATING SHISHA

The OOKA heating technology removes charcoal and smoke from the experience entirely, as well as prevents overheating and burning of molasses, which means it significantly reduces the number and level of harmful chemicals, compared to conventional shisha’s charcoal smoke.

OOKA not only removes the harm of charcoal from the shisha experience, but it also accentuates the core flavors of the premium molasses in the OOKA pods*.

*IMPORTANT: OOKA is not risk free and some pods available for OOKA contain nicotine, which is an addictive substance. Tobacco and nicotine free pods are available under the Zodiac brand.

HOW OOKA'S HEATING TECHNOLOGY WORKS

OOKA utilizes heat conduction to warm shisha molasses. This method allows precise temperature measurement and control, ensuring consistent, high-quality experiences. Unlike conventional shisha, OOKA’s system monitors heat application to the pod 25 times per second.

This technology rapidly adjusts heat energy, optimizing the experience, reducing carbonyls and TSNAs, and eliminating Carbon Monoxide. OOKA’s design prevents accidental overheating common in charcoal-heated waterpipes. Unlike traditional setups exceeding 200°C, OOKA’s intelligent microchip programs the device to a specific temperature profile, providing a cleaner and safer experience.

SWITCHING TO OOKA

Our studies have shown that those who switch to OOKA enjoy it just as much as those who continued to smoke conventional shisha.

MORE INFORMATION & DISCLAMIERS

The absence of smoke and less toxicants does not mean that OOKA is risk free.

“94% lower levels” represents the average reductions in levels of a range of harmful chemicals (excluding nicotine) compared to the smoke of a reference cigarette (3R4F). It does not necessarily equal a 94% reduction in risk.

Zero Carbon Monoxide = below the detection limit of 0.000097mg/ml in laboratory tests

Shisha contains nicotine which is addictive. Nicotine-free pods are available under the Zodiac brand.
